Sales to private buyers have helped boost vehicle sales as the market continues to quickly shrug off a forgettable 2009.

Official VFACTS data released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) shows that 82,219 passenger cars, SUVs and commercial vehicles were sold in February, up 17.1% (or 11,978 vehicles) on the same month in 2009.

“This is a very strong result and provides further evidence of renewed growth in vehicle sales,” FCAI chief executive Andrew McKellar says.

The peak body representing the Australian automotive industry, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), in partnership with many vehicle brands, has established the calculator following changes to pricing regulations.

The FCAI acted to assist buyers following changes to the Trade Practices Act.

The changes had the unfortunate consequence of brands withdrawing prices from websites because of the variations in stamp duty, registration and insurance charges in different states.
